Knothole, the Freedom HQ. Necessary preparations are made for the next mission. Sonic and Sally were communicating through Nicole, with Jules and Bernie about new discoveries they made. “…Robotnik is certainly working on something big. We haven’t figured out exactly what it is yet, but it has to be something big and dangerous. We figured out that Robotnik is passing up the renewal of his Master Robots’ Megatal layers, as if he is saving up the whole stash for something. He wouldn’t do that unless the thing was something game-changing.” Jules added.
“So we kn

Knothole Asylum. A haven for those whom have been pushed over the edge by the war. Those whose loss of families became too much, or have extreme cases of Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome. But there are some who have been put there for worse reasons. For a recently de-roboticized Hamlin Bacon it would be an eventful day. Most of the time he spend his days in the corner of his padded cell sulking and mumbling to himself. Like any good doctor, the psychiatrists tried to help him. But…
“He refuses to cooperate.” Dr. Hedwig, the female snow owl that led the asylum told the visitors. They included t

Freedom HQ, Knothole. Commander of the Ground Troops, Clove had reserved the training room for herself and her friend Jinx. After the incident that left her unhinged, Clove was ready to find out something. "Now Jinx, your morals and your knowledge were still intact after your...'incident'. But now we have to find out if you still would hold your own in combat. So to test you out, I have to go a few rounds with you."
"Oh my, at least buy me dinner first!" Jinx said with a joking sultry tone.
"No time for jokes!" Clove said. "Now, we are going to have a sparring match. First one to point at a fatal spo

Hershey felt groggy, her joints ached and felt weak…But she was alive? Last Hershey remembered was when she was stuck in the iron-strong, crushing grip of Grounder. But she was no longer in the ruins…she didn’t remember much, and the stuff she did remember was almost like a dream…she remembered shadows, she saw images of a monstrous troll-like being, but then the dream had faded to something soothing…Geoffrey…she could almost remember a kiss on her forehead.
But right now she was in the hospital. She pulled herself up. She felt bones breaking, but right now they are no lon

INTERLUDE: AUNT SALLY
Sally had sat out the latest mission. Sonic, Antoine and the Stealth Team had moved out to retrieve the amulet, while she would feel more comfortable to stay in Knothole, after the last two times she left on a mission, disaster had struck. She was just now walking through HQ, checking upon basically everything. The last place she checked was the lab, where the tech division normally worked. She noticed how the young prodigy, Tails Prower, was working on his latest project, the scrambler, as he was sipping at a cup of coffee.
“You know you are too young to drink coffee.” Sally said.

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE: DROODHENGE, PART III
After the Freedom Fighters were forced to separate after one of the traps in the Droodhenge complex activated, Sonic and Antoine’s group was now going through several corridors. “Okay, I’m pretty sure that we went through this corridor three times already. I recognize that smashed statue…But we went left first, right later, how do we keep ending up here again and again?”
“Looping spell. All ze paths will end up here again unless we pick ze right pathway.” Antoine noted.
“But there was only a left and right, what other pathway could there

Snively had ‘borrowed’ an airship from his Uncle’s hangar and now he and the retooled Grounder were on their way to Droodhenge. Grounder was looking uncertain though. “Snively, I’m not so sure about this. Acting without Lord Robotnik knowing…”
“I know it may seem odd. But think, if we recover the treasure at those ruins, he’ll reward us greatly. In fact, after I am promoted I’ll give you Heavy and Bomb’s position as the main robot right hand man. He’ll finally acknowledge my genius and your strength.” Snively assur

Robotnik’s right-hand man Snively was making certain scans on a computer. “The Freedom Fighters have been near a temple where those bloody Battle Birds were supposed to mine Segatite. Why were they there? It can’t be just the Segatite. They couldn’t have known about that stash…” Snively noted. “It has something to do with the temple itself. There must have been something inside. Let’s see…what other monuments date from the same period as that temple…ah yes, the Droodhenge. I n

INTERLUDE: GOODBYE PARTY
A few weeks after the funeral service, another sad event occurred. Though there was something more uplifting about it. It was the goodbye party for one of the Freedom Fighters, one of their own of the Science Division, the happy-go-lucky Muttski. They were sad to see him go, but were glad he was given another opportunity to do something better with his life.
“Everybody let it hear for our favorite new superstar!” Rotor said, patting his musical friend on the back as everyone cheered for Muttski.
Muttski had an awkward grin. “Future superstar, I didn’t have my first real concert

INTERLUDE: FUNERAL
Today was not a happy occasion. Today Knothole and the Freedom Fighters had to organize a funeral. During the last few missions several Freedom Fighter Ground Troops had lost their lives, plus the recent events of Desert Dodge being wiped out only added to that list. Sally Acorn had insisted on taking the word, even if she was not happy to be reminded of the victims of the war.
Everyone was of course neatly dressed for the occasion. Freedom Fighters in their uniform, and black bands around their arm, or fancy clothing. Sally sighed as she eyed the crowd. “Today we have gathered to remember the fallen.
